About the Artist

Marilyn Jessop

I’m an Artist who favours impressionism, vibrant and richly textured and abstraction.

I have paintings in Art Galleries in Picton, Nelson, Blenheim, Hanmer and Geraldine.

I’ve been invited to exhibit artworks in the Arts Festival in Venice 2025.

After being contacted by SingulArt an international online art gallery based in Paris, I now have many creations for sale with them and some of my paintings have been chosen to be in 9 public curations created by galleries in Paris, Montreal, Madrid and Issy-les – Moulineaux.

I first fell in love ‘capturing colour on canvas’ at the age of eleven, thanks to my parents seeing some form of creativity in me. Although I never pursued an education in art I experimented with a variety of techniques during my teenage years and started to sell my paintings in galleries around the South Island. Over the years I’ve managed to have ‘bursts of painting enthusiasm’ (in between ‘life’) having exhibitions in Nelson / Marlborough.

I am now in the enviable position where I can paint every day which has allowed me to create my ‘Impressions of Summer Series’ vibrant and richly textured creations and my ‘Remastered Series’ both of which I have adored laying on canvas. I love the Impressionism Movement, especially Renoir, J.S. Sargent and Monet, which is why they appear in my Remastered Series. I vary my painting styles and subjects – to keep fresh and excited with every work I create.

My more recent art works include my ‘Essence of Aotearoa Series’ – a snap shot of our inviting scenery, and my ‘Stylised Contemporary Series’ which include my Music in the Garden’ collection. I have to say I get immersed in the art of painting, frequently oblivious to time and the fact I haven’t put the roast in the oven! And, I’d rather have a painting finished and a very late dinner, anyway.

I live in picturesque Waikawa Bay, Picton. You can check me out on fb – Marilyn Jessop Art, Instagram and I can be contacted via email: marilynjessopbms@gmail.com
