Author: Marilyn Jessop, 'Top of the South' Artist

I fell in love capturing colour on canvas at the age of eleven, which led me to selling miniatures on Fridays nights at the street markets in Westport in the 70's, retail outlets around the South Island in the 80’s and many commissions. We set up ‘Just Art Gallery’ in the 90's with exhibitions in Picton and Nelson, (then my real job got busy which resulted in a long hiatus.) Over the years I’ve painted a variety of topics (who or whatever has inspired me at the time) using different mediums and techniques including impressionism. My favourite artists are from the Impressionism Movement and in particular - Claude Monet. Although I enjoyed painting in oils, but as I’m a messy painter I switched to acrylics – which suit me (and my surroundings) best! My love for vibrant colors has led me back to palette knife creations and coupled with my new series 'Impressions of Summer Series' and my 'Whimsical Series' has given me a massive injection of enthusiasm along with having my works in the fabulous Raukura Art Gallery and Giftware in Picton.
